DUB Turbo is a beat making software which is a cheaper alternative to professional (expensive) DAWs. It emulates the classic MPC drum machines and contains samples that were recorded in house by the DUB Turbo developers. You can of course import your own samples and instruments to create something completely original.
The sequencer is very easy to use. It has the three basic cursor tools – the arrow, the pencil and the eraser. These three tools are all you will need to draw and edit MIDI information directly into DUB Turbo’s sequencer. The main sequencer is basically an overview of all the tracks available for editing and each track has its own sequencer for micro editing. In other words, the micro sequencer contains the actual beats while the main sequencer simply determines when those beats will be heard.
If you don’t want to draw in the MIDI notes by hand, DUB Turbo allows you to record them using your computer keyboard. The number keys represent the drums and the lower two rows of letters represent one octave of a standard piano keyboard. When you record, the program will automatically ‘snap’ the notes to the nearest grid line so that your recording will always be in sync. If you are not happy with your recording you can edit it using the arrow tool.
DUB Turbo also has pitched samples like bass, keyboard and various other instruments. When you click the edit button on a ‘keys’ track, instead of the drum machine, you will be presented with a piano roll. This piano roll has four octaves and four bars to work with. Visually, each octave on the keys is a different color, making it easy for you find the note you are looking for. Likewise, the first beat of each bar is marked so you can easily find your way through the loop.
